The Coots are the big gators of swamp rock, famed for highballing live shows that defy any stylistic limitations with a blazing roots 'n' roll sound -- grounded in the past, yet headed for the future. The band's led by world class harmonica master and gritty, soulful singer Jim Fitting, a co-founder of Treat Her Right. He's also performed with Bonnie Raitt and a host of other notable musicians who know great harp playing when they hear it. The muscular outfit's rounded out by Evan Harriman on keyboards, King Kane on bass, and drummers Dave Matthews and Jerome Deupree (Bourbon Princess/Morphine).
"The evolution of Coots singer Jimmy Fitting has been a joy to watch. He once played in Treat Her Right and was a beloved harmonica player who even drew raves from Bonnie Raitt. He can still belt the blues, but he expands nicely on this new disc into the Stonesy boogie of ''Black Crow," the irreverent ''Modern Genius Techno Girl," and the hypnotic, Grateful Dead-like ''Spacewalkin,' " with its line, ''I got no obligation, I'm free as air." The playing of keyboardist Evan Harriman and drummer Jerome Deupree is also sublime."
